Cultural Spotlight

Pano de Terra & Batuku

The cloth. The rhythm. The women who carry them.

Pano de terra is a Cabo Verdean cotton textile woven in narrow strips and joined into cloth. Its intricate geometric patterns hold the patient work of the loom — a living heritage of craft and cultural exchange.

Batuku is a musical and dance tradition closely associated with women performers, the batukadeiras. Voices, percussion and movement carry a different kind of collective memory: heritage kept alive through practice.

For Woven, these distinct traditions meet in a shared idea: women carrying culture forward. Our name honors the pano; our red, ivory and sapphire threads echo the Cabo Verdean flag.
